Three pro boxers opted to compete at the Rio Games and none remain after Tommasone and Ruenroeng were beaten.

Tommasone went down to Cuban Lazaro Alvarez, a bronze medallist in London, and Ruenroeng was beaten by Sofiane Oumiha in the men's light (60kg) preliminaries.

Ruenroeng's technical knockout was one of two on Tuesday, with local Robson Conceicao achieving the other against Anvar Yunusov.

Boxers are without headgear at the Games and the problem of deep cuts also became a talking point.

HIGHLIGHT

There were a pair of TKOs in the men's light as Conceicao and Oumiha reached the quarter-finals.

Thailand's Ruenroeng was the last pro standing but he was unable to last the distance against Oumiha, knocked down twice in the second round and again in the third.

It was a different kind of TKO for Conceicao, who won the first round against Yunusov before the Tajik did not return.

QUOTES

"I fight in the ring and back home, in my country, this is a fight, too, to overcome terrorism. I have only one wish, peace for Iraq," - Waheed Abdulridha Waheed Karaawi had more on his mind than boxing.

"In general I prefer not to wear headgear and feel it's better for me, but today was a minus. In the first minute after I got the cut, I was in a lot of discomfort and I ended up taking more punches," - Adlan Abdurashidov among those unhappy, at least this time, with the lack of headgear after his loss.

"My next fight will hopefully be less physical. I wish I could wear headgear. I will have to be careful and try not to let the other fighter use his head but if he does, it could affect me a lot," - Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu won, but he would have preferred to do it with headgear.

WHAT'S NEXT

The business stages of the men's heavyweight and light fly as the quarter-finals begin. World champion Evgeny Tishchenko is in action against Clemente Russo, while Samuel Carmona Heredia, who upset Paddy Barnes, resumes his campaign.
