Sulley Muntari: Stephen Appiah is a better leader than Gyan

The former AC Milan midfielder has tasted the captaincy of both Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan and he believes the former was a better leader of the two.

Sulley Muntari has indicated that Stephen Appiah was a better Black Stars skipper that Asamoah Gyan.

Both Muntari and Asamoah Gyan played in the same Black Stars team captained by Stephen Appiah, before the former Juventus midfielder retired and Muntari was again part of the senior national male football team of Ghana when the Al Ahli striker was the leader of the playing body in the 2014 FIFA World.

Many Ghanaians remember Stephen Appiah for his excellent leadership qualities and his teammate Muntari has confirmed that assertion describing him as a better leader when he compared him with the current captain of the Black Stars.

“Stephen by far…because Asamoah is just a young one, Stephen had been there for so long, he made the Black Stars, Black Stars,” the former Inter and AC Milan midfielder told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

The Pescara player added “he (Appiah) was amazing on the pitch and off the pitch, he made sure that we were comfortable around him, he was an amazing leader. Asamoah is doing his best…but Appiah is way ahead.”
