Ghana government promises to support Kwesi Appiah

The new Black Stars coach has got massive backing from the government of the Republic

Appiah was appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars a week ago to replace Avram Grant.

The Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, who is an admirer of Kwesi Appiah has stated that government will back the former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars coach to succeed as head coach

''He’s got the pedigree and experience over the years and is a very humble gentleman,'' Asiamah said.

“Ghanaians generally love him, and as government we will give him all the support that he needs to succeed, so that he can win more laurels for Ghana. That is our job.

“I believe in local content and that is evident in the appointment of Kwasi Appiah. We have not just appointed a local coach, but a very competent local coach.”

“We supported Avram Grant and he got nothing for us, so how much more the man [Kwesi Appiah] who took us to the World Cup.''

Kwesi Appiah was the first indigene to qualify the Black Stars for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil 2014.

But was sacked after Ghana failed to advance from the group stage of the competition, amidst player  boycott of training over appearance fees.

He is expected to end Ghana's trophy drought since winning the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations in Libya.
