Alfred Duncan 'sad' to miss 2017 AFCON

The Sassuolo midfielder has been pegged back by an ankle injury which has sidelined him since November 2016.

Ghana international midfielder Alfred Duncan says he is sad to miss the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon due to an ankle injury.

The 23-year-old has been pegged back by an ankle injury which has sidelined him since November 2016.

The  Sassuolo midfielder is suffering from a grain in the ankle lateral ligament that will rule him out of the African continental showpiece starting January 14.

Duncan expressed his displeasure on his Twitter account: "sad I couldn't make it to the Afcon with the Stars but it's all good. we will all support you guys in prayers hoping you bring the trophy HM."

He last played for Sassuolo on 30 October when he came on as substitute in the 2-1 defeat at Lazio.

Duncan who featured in some of the qualifiers to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations is expected to return to action in February.
