Exactly six years today the Black Satellites defeated Senegal on penalties to win WAFU

On 11th December, 2008, Ghana has lifted the Ibori Cup at the Wafu Under-20 Championship after beating Senegal 5-4 on penalties

The tournament hosted by Nigeria saw Ghana and Senegal clash in the finals watched by CAF President, Issa Hayatou in the Delta State.

Both sides finished normal regulation time 1-1 sending the game into penalties after 30 minutes of extra time.

Dominic Adiyah scored for the Black Satellites during normal time and that was the striker's fourth goal at the tournament.

And Ghana’s Under-20 side, the Black Satellites came up tops with goalkeeper, Daniel Agyei turning the hero of the night.

Agyei saved the final kick after the Senegalese had sent their previous kick onto the crossbar. The Black Satellites scored all four kicks.

The win extended Ghana’s unbeaten run at the Championship. Before reaching the finals, Ghana, first posted a win over Senegal in the opening group game, then beat Guinea and the Gambia, all the group stage.

Ghana went on to defeat Benin in the quarter-finals before beating Burkina Faso in the semi-finals.

The Wafu competition started with 16 teams, out of which the two sides from the same group made it to the finals. Nigeria hosted the Wafu Cup tournament.
