Golden State went into Friday's game seeking a 55th consecutive regular-season victory at Oracle Arena, where they had been 36-0 this season.

But the Celtics had other ideas, withstanding a late charge to hand the Warriors their first regular-season loss at home since January last year.

Evan Turner (21 points) made a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining, and despite Harrison Barnes (14) making it a one-point game from beyond the arc just seconds later, Isaiah Thomas (22) scored underneath the basket late to see off the Warriors.

The defeat also dented the Warriors' pursuit of the 72-win NBA record.

The Warriors - who were led by Stephen Curry's 29 points - are 68-8, still four victories short of the win-loss record set by the Chicago Bulls in 1995-96.
