The Memphis Grizzlies will be without their star big man Marc Gasol as they look to stay in the NBA play-off hunt.

Gasol has a broken right foot and will be out indefinitely, the Grizzlies announced on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies initially called the injury a foot sprain but in evaluation by team physicians, an MRI revealed a fracture in his right foot.

"Marc is a cornerstone of our franchise," general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement.

"We are focused on getting him healthy. A further update will be provided after the All-Star Break."

The 31-year-old Gasol is averaging 16.6 points and seven rebounds per game this season for the Grizzlies (30-22), who are fifth in the Western Conference.
