Everton boss Ronald Koeman is keen on signing Baba Rahman, the forgotten Chelsea full-back poised to go back on loan at Schalke 04.

Rahman joined Chelsea for £14million from Augsburg in 2015 but didn’t impress Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte, who promptly brought in Marcos Alonso.

That led to a season-long loan in the Bundesliga with Schalke.

But the unlucky Ghanaian, 22, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee in January while playing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

He is expected to be match fit for August following a successful rehabilitation.

Schalke have stayed in contact and want him back for the summer, although both Everton and AC Milan are thought to have made enquiries.

Chelsea are keen to see how Rahman returns as they believe he still has the potential to succeed in the Premier League.

But playing regular competitive football in the Bundesliga is considered the next best step.

Rahman has had his moments – in 2014/15 with Augsburg he made 108 tackles, more than any other player in the Bundesliga that season.

Using his strength and pace he was able to win 90 of those tackles, coming out to an 83 per cent successful tackle rate.

Rahman also had 83 interceptions and won 80 contested aerial balls.
