Adidas and the IAAF are in "close contact" amid reports claiming that the German sport brand will end their sponsorship deal with athletics' governing body.

According to the BBC, Adidas believes the revelations linked to the doping and corruption scandals constitute a break of its agreement with the IAAF, and they will end their association with the governing body four years early.

Were Adidas to end their deal it would be a huge blow for the sport at the start of an Olympic year, and could see other sponsors follow.

"As you know Adidas has a clear anti-doping policy in place," the company said in a statement.

"Therefore, we are in close contact with the IAAF to learn more about their reform process."

Adidas are also a major sponsor of FIFA, themselves the subject of corruption investigations, but have so far not revealed their stance on football's world governing body, despite many sponsors demanding reform at the highest levels of football governance.
