The International Olympic Committee has disqualified Yarelys Barrios and Samuel Adelebari Francis from the Beijing Olympics.
Yarelys Barrios has been ordered to return the silver medal she won at the Beijing Olympics after the Cuban discus thrower was one of two athletes to be disqualified in anti-doping sanctions handed out by the International Olympic Committee on Thursday.
Reanalysis of Barrios' samples from the 2008 Games resulted in a positive test for the banned substance acetazolamide – a diuretic and masking agent.
Barrios went on to win bronze in the London Olympics four years ago and has four World Championship medals to her name.
Sprinter Samuel Adelebari Francis of Qatar also had his samples analysed again, yielding a trace of the prohibited substance stanozolol.
Francis, who was ranked 16th in the 100 metres in Beijing, has also been disqualified from the Games in China by the International Olympic Committee.
