QUOTES OF THE DAY

"It was very hard to run fast because the turnaround time was really, really, really short. It was ridiculous as far as I am concerned because I felt so good in the semi-finals," - Bolt not happy with the scheduling after his time of 9.81 seconds was fast enough to win.

"That's a tough question. If I quit now it will piss me off that my last shot was a nine pointer," - Italian 50m rifle 3 positions champion Niccolo Campriani may not retire just yet.

"Norway is a good team, they have a system in their game. They are like robots. Norway is Norway, all the time they win," - Romanian women's handball player Oana Manea after her team's 28-27 loss.

"None of my players will get up tomorrow morning feeling they were horrible tonight. They have done their utmost. No one will be buried alive after this," - Romania coach Tomas Ryde praises his players despite defeat.

"The medal ceremony was surreal. I've watched many on TV. I never thought I'd be involved in one. Honestly, this is just a dream come true, I have been thinking about Rio for a long, long time. It is just crazy, just so good," - golf gold medallist Rose revels in his win.

UNSUNG HERO

China's Meng Suping arrived in Rio after the Olympics had started, but she still won weightlifting gold on Sunday.

The 27-year-old won the women's over 75kg title ahead of Kim Kuk-hyang and Sarah Robles, the silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Meng only joined her team-mates in Rio at the last minute, replacing the injured Hou Zhihui for the Games.

She needed a 177kg lift with her final effort in the clean and jerk, and she managed it to win by 1kg.

MEDAL WATCH

Whitlock, Rose and Murray were among Great Britain's gold medallists as they took their tally to 15, and 38 medals in total. They are second only to the United States, who have 26 golds and 69 medals.

AND FINALLY...

There was yet another proposal at the Olympics.

China's He Zi, silver medallist in the women's 3m springboard, said yes to fellow diver Qin Kai.

"We've been dating for over six years. I didn't know that he would propose today, and I didn't expect that I would marry myself out so early," the 25-year-old He said.

"He said a lot of things there at the podium. He made a lot of promises, but the thing that has touched me the most is that I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life."
