Meb Keflezighi ended his Olympic career with a bang when he slipped just before the finishing line in the Rio marathon and managed a couple of press-ups.

American athlete Meb Keflezighi ended his Olympic career with a bang when he slipped just before the finishing line in the Rio marathon and managed a couple of press-ups before rising to his feet to end the race.

Keflezighi won silver at the 2004 Athens Games and sealed a spot on the United States team for what he vowed would be his final Games in Brazil 12 years on from his trip to the podium.

The 41-year-old, whose first Olympics appearance came in the 2000 Sydney Games, was not in the hunt for medals this time around, but certainly made an impact as he bowed out by hitting the deck after losing his footing on a slick surface while waving to the crowd inches before crossing the line.

But Keflezighi made light of an embarrassing moment, showing he still had a bit in the tank by partaking in some push-ups before doffing his cap to acknowledge the spectators after finishing 33rd in a time of two hours, 16 minutes and 46 seconds.
