2016 African Athletics Championships Nadia Eke wins gold in Durban

Ghana's Nadia Eke has won the first Gold medal for the country at the on-going African Athletics Championships in Durban, South Africa, on Sunday.

The female athlete came on top in the triple jump competition to qualify for the Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Eke, who is the national record holder in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump events, has a record of 13.49m, breaking the old record of 13.48m held by France-based Mathile Boateng.

On another positive note, John Ampomah won silver in javelin throwing a reach of 75m

The duo capped off a good performance by team Ghana who placed 7th in overall rankings after winning total number of 6 medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze )

Team Ghana will arrive in the country on Tuesday evening at 16:30 GMT.
