Black Stars captain not worried to miss AFCON tournament

Asamoah Gyan says he would not be worried if he does not make it to an AFCON tournament due to the lack of respect for the competition

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says he will not be bothered if he does not make it to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The player explains the lack of respect for Africa’s top international tournament as the main reason for his point.

The Shanghai SIPG player insisted he would be more worried in missing out on the FIFA World Cup tournament instead.

Gyan explained on Kumasi-based Angel FM if the possibility of him missing the next AFCON tournament was a worry:

“If I don't make it to AFCON it isn't painful because no one respects it but I will be worried if I am not present at the World Cup.

“The reason is everybody respect the World Cup. The only thing that can make me worried is not representing Ghana at the AFCON but not the tournament itself.

“Any Ghanaian player who misses AFCON won't be sad but will be very sorry if he fail to appear at the World Cup.”

Gyan had recently disclosed in an interview he would stay as Black Stars captain until he retires from the senior national team of Ghana.
