Black Stars deputy skipper named Sports Personality of the year
Andre Ayew beat off competition from fellow Black Stars team mate, Asamoah Gyan, Yusif Basigi and Bashir Hayford to emerge as SWAG Sports Personality of the Year.

Andre Ayew was very effective in both national and club football in 2015. He helped the Black Stars reach the Africa Cup of Nations final in January 2015 and also made an instant hit in the English Premier League by winning the Barclays Player for the month of August, which was his debut month.
The 26-year attacking midfielder was also adjudged the SWAG Player of the Year, after he outcompeted Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan and Black Stars defender, Harison Afful in that category.
Asamoah Gyan who missed out on the Sports Personality of the Year as well as the footballer of the year award was given a special reward for his philanthropic work in the country.
Other awards recipients on the night were: Eric Opoku who was adjudged the Premier League player of the year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana; Yusif Basigi, who was named the coach of the year for guiding the Black Queens to win gold at the 2015 All African Games in Brazil, as the first ever gold won by the Senior Women’s National Team of Ghana.
His team the Black Queens also won the SWAG team of the year for winning gold at the All African Games.

Nat Team of the Year- Golden Rackets (George Darko & W. Na-Adjrago- Gold medalist at the AAG)
Male Hockey Player of the Year- Johnny Botsio (Black Sticks & Trustees player)
Hockey Player of the Year (F) - Nafisatu Umaru ( MVP at AHC in Zambia, League winner with Police)
Amateur Boxer of the Year- David Bawa (Heavyweight bronze medallist at the 2015 AAG).
Athlete of the Year (Male)- John Ampomah (Javelin Silver medallist at AAG, 2 national records).
Athlete of the Year (Female) -Nadia Eke (Triple Jump Bronze medallist at the 2015 AAG, nat record holder).
