Black Stars deputy skipper named Sports Personality of the year

Andre Ayew beat off competition from fellow Black Stars team mate, Asamoah Gyan, Yusif Basigi and Bashir Hayford to emerge as SWAG Sports Personality of the Year.

Andre Ayew was very effective in both national and club football in 2015. He helped the Black Stars reach the Africa Cup of Nations final in January 2015 and also made an instant hit in the English Premier League by winning the Barclays Player for the month of August, which was his debut month.

The 26-year attacking midfielder was also adjudged the SWAG Player of the Year, after he outcompeted Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan and Black Stars defender, Harison Afful in that category.

Asamoah Gyan who missed out on the Sports Personality of the Year as well as the footballer of the year award was given a special reward for his philanthropic work in the country.
