Asamoah Gyan satisfied with Black Stars performance against Mali

Ghana secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations as Asamoah Gyan's goal was enough to beat Mali 1-0 in Port-Gentil on Saturday.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is excited with the performance of the Black Stars following their hard-fought 1-0 victory Mali on Saturday.

The 31-year-old became Ghana's all-time top scorer in the African Nations Cup as the Black Stars edged Mali 1-0 in Port-Gentil to book their place in the quarterfinals.

Gyan headed home from a Jordan Ayew corner in the 21st minute to take his tournament tally to eight and eclipse previous record holder Osei Kofi.

It gave Ghana their second straight win in Group D, having started their campaign with victory over Uganda last week.

"In tournaments you need to be winning games and that is what we did today," said Gyan.

"We are satisfied about our performance. Whether we play an excellent game or not, at the end of the day we just want to win and move forward."
