Vodafone African SME summit opens in Accra

The 3-day summit under the theme “Dreaming Africa” offers the platform for SME’s to learn from major industry players mainly in business growth essentials.

The Vodafone African SME summit opened in Accra Thursday 5 November, 2015 with a challenge to Ghanaian Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SME’s) to scale up their operations and expand beyond the country’s borders.

Majority of Ghanaian SMES with great potential are not visible on the global market. with the But given the way the business landscape is changing, Professor of Accounting at the China Europe International Business School, Professor Matthew Tsamenyi told JOY BUSINESS, SMEs would need the international exposure to remain competitive.

“If you look at even the top 100 companies in Ghana, we identified just 3 that have ventured outside Ghana. And you ask the question, why? The biggest problem is scaling up. How do we create global business in Ghana? How do we think beyond Ghana? he asked.

“First you need to think of strategic alliances and partnerships. But to be able to do this, you need the skills, structure and the plans among other things” he said.

The summit which ends on Friday will provide networking and mentoring opportunities for SME owners and avenues for them to showcase their products.
