In the video, Nanjiani is appearing on The Ellen Show to promote his new film Love Birds which stars he and Issa Rae as a couple on the run after getting accidentally involved in a murder (yes, it's a comedy).
After speaking about the movie, Degeneres moves on to the challenge explaining that the actor has agreed to participate. For completing Plank that Song, Shutterfly will donate $10,000 to Disaster Philanthropy , Nanjiani's charity of choice.
The actor moves into position for his plank and sings The Bangles' classic "Eternal Flame" for a full minute before he's able to be free and claim the money for the organization. While Nanjiani's plank form is pretty stellar, his singing voice, well, not so much. But he fully admits it. After he's up, the actor says, "I want to stress to you that that was me doing my best. I cannot sing. I am tone deaf."
While he doesn't say it, Nanjiani's song choice seems as though it could be intentional. The actor is set to star in Mavel's The Eternals making the song a particularly apt choice. As for that impressive plank form, it could also be a result of his involvement in the film. Nanjiani made headlines when he transformed his physique for the upcoming role.
