Religious leader kicks against extremism

Sheikh Abdul Wadud Harun Ciesse, President of the Tijjaniyya Muslims of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the ambassadors of Algeria and Niger, in Accra with a call to end religious violence and extremism.The visit was to also introduce himself to the two ambassadors, after his appointment by Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharuburu, the National Chief Imam as the Zaeem (President) of the Tijjaniya Muslim sect in Ghana at the 47th annual Maulid.He promised to revive the Tijjaniya way of practising Islam, which provides moderation, a requirement from all faith based organisations.He said the Tijjaniya Muslims in Ghana would continue to support countries that have declared war on terrorism and religious extremism and commended the two countries for standing against such unreligious practice.He appealed to the two ambassadors to help establish strong links with Islamic scholars in their countries to exchange of programmes, cooperation, collaboration and assistance.Youssef Delileche, the Ambassador of Algeria commended the Zaeem for the visit and pledged his support towards establishing strong links between the leadership of Tijjaniya in Ghana and renowned Islamic organisations in Algeria.Ayisha Danladi, Ambassador of Niger expressed her joy for the visit, revealing that her family also believe and practice the Tijjaniya way of Islam.She said, as sect with large following in Ghana, her office would help link members in Niger for exchange of ideas and programmes.Sheikh Ciesse announced that he would be visiting Niger for an Islamic education programme in the coming week.
