The former press secretary to President John Agyekum Kufour and founder of the Centre for Freedom and Accuracy, Mr. Andrew Awuni has lashed out at the Chairman of the Council of Elders, C.K Tedam for suspending its National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

'Let the oldmen stop lying in NPP' - Awuni
According to C.K. Tedam, Paul Afoko was acting against the interest of the party, hence his suspension.

According to C.K Tedam, Afoko was suspended because he failed to call National Executive Committee meetings among others.
But Mr Awuni speaking Monday evening on Viasat One in an interview with Bernad Avle said, C.K Tedam lied over Afoko's suspension.
He said "no chairman in the NPP since 1992 has held more meetings than Mr. Afoko."

Addressing some selected journalists at his residence in Accra, the chairman of the NPPs council of elders argued that Afoko showed a lot of arrogance in his approach to matters and accused him of falsely and deceitfully ignoring every invitation by both the council of elders and the disciplinary committee to amicably settle all charges and grievances against him.
C.K. Tedam further said Afoko's failure to call for NEC meetings among others were the reasons behind his suspension.Explaining the decision of party executives not to attend meetings at Afoko's private office, Mr Tedam stated that the presence of military personnel at Afokos office is intimidating, hence their decision.
Mr. Andrew Awuni stated that "The Disciplinary Committee should have referred their decision to the National Council and not the National Executive Committee… the party has been hijacked."

"I feel sorry for him [C.K Tedam]," Awuni added. "He is lying. I’m not sure C.K Tedam knows Afoko’s house. Let the oldmen stop lying."
The party's communications director, Nana Akomea, however said Mr. Afoko, however, has two weeks to petition the national council of elders for the decision to be overturned.
"If he finds anything wrong with the procedure he can just put it into writing and appeal to the national council." Nana Akomea said.
