NPP does not recognise Delta Force group - Hamid

Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid has said that the vigilante group, the Delta Force is not an officially recognized group by the New Patriotic Party.

He said even though the party used the services of the group during the 2016 elections, particularly in the Ashanti region, their recent actions have dented the image of the party and President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“It is not a body recognized per the constitutional arrangements of our party…there is nothing like Delta Force in the political arrangements of the NPP.”

“You see there are all sorts of groups…there were many many groups but what I mean by recognition is that we don’t recognize them as official entities…but we knew that these people exist.

“Their actions as per what they did to the regional security coordinator and what they did in the court premises is contrary to law, unacceptable and condemnable,” Hamid said on Accra-based Starr FM.

Some members of Delta Force besieged the Kumasi Circuit Court last week and freed 13 members who were facing charges for attacking the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.

Eight of those who aided in the escape were subsequently arrested by the police.

The 13 members who escaped also reported themselves to the police and have since been granted bail.

Each of the 13 is to execute a bail bond of GHS10,000 with two sureties each to be justified.

They are also to submit photocopies of their valid ID cards and report to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service each week.
