The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared President John Dramani Mahama to contest unopposed as the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming November 7 primaries.

The President was vetted by the committee Wednesday and will run unopposed.

President John Mahama must needs to secure more 50% of votes at the primaries to affirm his status as flagbearer of the NDC.

However, according to the General Secretary of the party, Joihnson Asiedu Nketiah, the vetting process was only a formality adding that “We had the opportunity to vet the sole candidate of the NDC President John Dramani Mahama, and he was found to be qualified to contest…he is expected to make more than 50% of the votes to qualify as the candidate.”

Mr. Mahama will contest Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 general elections if given the nod by the national delegates.
