Prof Delle will transform CPP - Kwesi Pratt

Prof Delle is returning to party politics after an eight-year break and political commentators are predicting that he will transform the fortunes of the CPP.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has said the transformation the Convention People’s Party (CPP) desperately needs is hinged on Professor Edmund Delle winning the party’s chairmanship position.

He remarked that the CPP has over the years committed some mistakes which have suppressed its ability to emerge as a formidable force in Ghana’s political sphere.

He was therefore certain their salvation lies in the hands of Prof Delle’s leadership.

Speaking on Radio Gold on Saturday, Kwesi Pratt said: “We [CPP] want to get out of that situation and build a party which is based on the principles of democratic centralism, a party which is focused on solving the concrete problems of the masses and so on.

“That is the effort we are making and I am sure that at the end of the congress, Professor Delle is going to emerge as chairman of the party and is going to reorganize the party to change itself and to rebrand itself.”

According to him, the current internal wrangling within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has some semblance to the mistakes the CPP made in time past although not on the same scale.

“Never in the history of the CPP did we for any reason get one of our regional chairman dying from an acid attack…While some of our friends in the NPP appear to want to repeat some of our mistakes, we want to jog out of our mistakes and build something more credible and more healthy.”

The CPP is scheduled to elect new national officers to lead the party into the 2016 general elections.

The current chairperson, Samia Nkrumah has backed Prof Delle’s bid to take over the management of the party.
