Former Lower Manya MP out of NDC Primaries

The former MP said majority of his constituents, including various social organisations, wished he came back because of his good leadership style but that had not been so.

Former Lower Manya MP out of NDC Primaries

The Former Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Mr Michael Teye Nyaunu, aka MTN, says even though he desires to contest the primaries on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he has not been given clearance by the  National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to pick nomination forms.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic at Odumase Krobo, Mr Nyaunu said he had not got any response from the NEC, adding that he was disappointed.

Mr Nyaunu explained that because he contested as an independent candidate in the 2012 general election, the National Executive Committee (NEC) had to clear him in order to pick a form, but as of 9:30 am on September 9, 2015, when he had an interview with the paper, he had heard nothing from NEC, implying that he had been barred from contesting the primaries.

“I will not say that my inability to contest on the NDC ticket will mean an end to my political career.  This is because the issue at stake is an NDC internal affair and it is not about the Electoral Commission’s rules and regulations,” Mr Nyaunu stressed.

He said the general election would be conducted in a year’s time; therefore he would use that period to think for himself, and see what would be his way forward.

Mr Nyaunu, who spent 16 years in Parliament and rose to the position of Deputy Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, used the medium to express his deep and profound gratitude to his constituents for their massive support for him even though he was not contesting.

“It is just like a man who loves a woman but the woman does not love him and he can’t force the marriage. I have unconditional love for my constituents and I will do everything possible to continue to serve them in diverse ways so long as I stay with them”, Mr Nyaunu ended.

Information gathered by the Daily Graphic in the area showed that some electorates in the constituency, especially the youth, were still clamouring for the former MP to come back.
