Nana Addo wants violence not a new register – Kojo Twum Boafo

Kojo Twum Boafo says the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo is only hoping to create a situation which will call for power sharing.

Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Kojo Twum Boafo is claiming that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) call for a new voters’ register is a ploy to foment trouble.

According to him, the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo is only hoping to create a situation which will call for power sharing.

Speaking on Radio Gold on Saturday, Mr. Twum Boafo said: “Nana Addo doesn’t want a new register! Nana Addo and his lieutenants in the NPP don’t want a new register. What they want is to foment trouble; they don’t really want a new register because I am very sure they knew the call for a new register wouldn’t fly…”

“What Nana Addo really wants is to create a scenario where there will be violence in this country, where there will trouble in this country for some people to intervene and say let’s share power. This is what this is all about because even before the pronouncements from the EC, you have heard some of his lieutenants going ahead and saying that there will be trouble. Some people are calling for youth uprising…” he added.

The NPP’s demand for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 general elections informed the Electoral Commission’s decision to organize a two-day forum to give all political parties and other stakeholders to share their thoughts on the matter.

Although the five-member panel that chaired the forum is yet to submit its recommendations to the Commission, the EC Chair has given indications that the register will be thoroughly audited instead of creating a new register.

The NPP’s Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku in a post on his Facebook page said a youth uprising is likely to occur should the EC refuse to put in place a new register.

Mr. Twum Boafo stressed that these pronouncements from Mr. Awuku and some other NPP members only goes to show that the party’s leader, Nana Addo “is not interested in a new register. What he is interested in is violence.”

He opined that should the EC give the NPP a new voters’ register, “they will come up with something else to be the reason why they can’t win. I am very confident that if we compile a new register, they will lose again but I am not going to go down the road by giving them what they want simply because he said it.”

“We gave them transparent ballot boxes because they said it! We gave them photo ID because they said it! We gave them colour photo ID because they said…” he added.
