NPP's internal conflicts; a disguise to a coup d'etat - Nyaho Tamakloe

To me, the recommendations to the disciplinary committee is a disguise to a coup d'etat against the elected party chairman

Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has said that recent internal conflicts in the party bear the semblance of a coup d'etat. His comment follows the directive by the council of elders to the disciplinary committee that the party chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko should be suspended for allegedly violating the party's constitutional provisions.

A statement signed by the chairman of the Council of Elders CK Tedam and copied to the flagbearer of the party and former President John Kufuor said the conduct of Mr. Afoko is bringing the image of the party into disrepute.

But, speaking on Accra-based Starr FM, Dr. Tamakloe said "To me, the recommendations to the disciplinary committee is a disguise to a coup d'etat against the elected party chairman, and the authors of this imaginary references really do not understand the complicated situation they are putting not just themselves to but the party as well", he said.

"They've been inactive when people make ethnocentric attacks that could be fatal to the party. They have been inactive when people attack party leadership... They have been active only when something could be conjured against Afoko and I think this is very unfortunate", he added.

Dr. Tamakloe further said that any decision to suspend Afoko will lead to disunity amongst party members.

Meanwhile, a member of the NPP's Council of Elders, Boniface Gambilla has revealed that the party’s General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong will be the next to be expelled after party chairman Paul Afoko is suspended for breaching party rules.
