Mahama blames Police for clash

Addressing labour unions in Accra on Tuesday, President Mahama said the Nima Police should have predicted the situation and taken measures that will prevent such incidents from happening.

President John Mahama has blamed the Nima Police Command for the clash that ensued between the security detail of the NPP flagbearer and members of the NDC Sunday morning.

Addressing labour unions in Accra on Tuesday, President Mahama said the Nima Police should have predicted the situation and taken appropriate measures that will prevent such incidents from happening.

“Only last Saturday we almost had a clash which was unfortunate, if any of those firearms had been fired and someone had dropped dead it would have been a completely different story. I think we should be preventive enough in our actions to prevent such things...I think that the police at Nima should have been better briefed knowing that this group was passing through and then we should have taken appropriate safeguards to ensure that such a thing doesn’t happen.”

Meanwhile the 2016 presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said that the clash will in no way intimidate him and the party.

He said "Let the president [Mahama] and his army of propaganda warriors be assured that they would not succeed in their intimidation and deliberate propaganda mongering against the NPP and [me]."

Violence broke at the Nima residence of Nana Addo on Sunday for reasons yet to be made public but according to the NPP, the incident is part of series of activities planned by the NDC.

Some supporters of the NDC undertaking a health walk, allegedly veered off to Nana Addo's Nima residence and tried to enter the house but met resistance from security men.
