The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated an NPP governments commitment to the setting up of a special fund aimed at enhancing infrastructural development in the Zongo communities and improving the lives of their residents.
According to him, the Zongo Development Fund, which Nana Addo first announced in the 2012 campaign to tackle the deprived nature of the Zongos, will be an integral part of the party’s 2016 manifesto, and will be established if, God-willing, he is given the mandate to serve the people of Ghana, from January 2017.
He made this known at the launch of the party's manifesto. He noted that the fund forms part a holistic policy approach, aimed at tackling the deprived nature of the Zongos, something which has never been done in Ghana’s history.
He said "Every constituency in Ghana will receive $1million to provide for social amenities in the constituency... We’ll set up the Coastal Dev’t Authority (CDA) will serve as the principal development agency for the coastal communities."
Dr Bawumia noted "We will establish a Zongo Development Fund to help develop Zongos."
