Don't portray Nana Addo as perfect - Dr. Percy to NPP

Dr. Percy who is an avid critic of Nana Addo said the NPP flagbearer should have refrained from responding to the publication.

“They [NPP] should not strain to paint their candidate as a perfect being because no perfect being exists in politics,” he said.

According to him, persons who decide to contest the presidential election of their country certainly have some skeletons in their cupboard.

“If someone was to come across a candidate for President who has never committed any wrong, I will be very frightened of that person; very, very frightened because he will not be a normal person.”

Last week, a Daily Post newspaper publication alleged that Nana Addo murdered his late wife, Obaa Yaa Nkansah Dwamena on 17th August, 1993.

Nana Addo’s office through a statement described the publication as "false and defamatory" and subsequently demanded an immediate and unconditional retraction of the story.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold, Dr. Percy who is an avid critic of Nana Addo said the NPP flagbearer should have refrained from responding to the publication.

He indicated that “ordinarily, if he [Nana Addo] had proper advisors, they would have told him to ignore the rumour but since they have been so unprofessional to advice on the response, the response should have been given by himself and not through a third party.”

He was of the view that giving a response to such news reports “just allows the thing [story] to linger.”

Dr. Percy again suggested that since Nana Addo found it necessary to respond, he should have done so in person and not through a third party.

“It is fair game for politicians to look for cobwebs and skeletons but when I heard about this, I thought that perhaps Nana Addo had responded to the matter himself but then I heard that it’s through a spokesperson and that is not proper. He can put it out but it’s important that the person himself responds to it if he deems it important.”
