NDC Primaries was a popularity contest - Amoako Baah

Speaking in an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the Political Science lecturer said the new entrants lack the requisite experience in parliament and this would spell doom for the party in the 2016 elections.

Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has indicated the new group of parliamentary candidates who were elected in the National Democratic Congress, NDC primaries held last Saturday is bad for the party.

A new wind of change has blown aside some sitting Members of Parliament, MPs of the National Democratic Congress in the party's parliamentary and presidential primaries on Saturday.

Some new faces in the NDC have so far displaced some ‘big wigs’ in the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries.

Speaking in an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the Political Science lecturer said the new entrants lack the requisite experience in parliament and this would spell doom for the party in the 2016 elections.

“If you get new people, the difficulty is in whose record are they going to campaign. If the incumbency is retained, you would have experienced people in parliament. If you bring in all these new people, you run the risk of having a novice; people with actually no experience or whatsoever being in parliament,” he said.

"So then, it looks as if the whole thing has turned into a popularity contest. Most of them don’t have the experience. These are all brand new people going into parliament with no experience at all,” Dr. Amoako Baah added.

The NDC primaries produced some interesting results, leaving in its wake a number of recorded casualties, as some new faces displaced some 'giants' in parliament.

Daughter of former President John Rawlings, Dr Ezanetor Rawlings beat incumbent MP, Nii Armah Ashietey to emerge winner in the hotly contested election.

Popular actor and comedian, Kwame Dzokoto has won the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, polling 1415 votes as his closest contender Joseph Otchere polled 402.
