Zanetor's case not yet over - Nii Armah Ashietey

The Supreme Court by a majority decision cleared Dr. Zenator Agyemng-Rawlings to contest the parliamentary election for the Klottey Korle constituency on the ticket of the NDC in the November polls.

The incumbent NDC Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashietey has said he is not perturbed by the victory secured by the Parliamentary candidate elect for the area, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings.

The Supreme Court by a majority decision cleared Dr. Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings to contest the parliamentary election for the Klottey Korle constituency on the ticket of the NDC in the November polls.

The court also directed the High Court to give a ruling in line with the determination by the Supreme Court

The Apex Court revealed that a person is only deemed a candidate after the Electoral Commission (EC) opens the opportunity for parties to submit the names of their nominees elected from their parties primaries and that has not happened yet hence the argument of her not being qualified cannot hold.

But speaking to Accra-based Kasapa FM, Special Aide to Nii Armah Ashietey, Kester Kuranchie stated that “The issue we sent to court is an internal party matter; we insist that the NDC party has flouted its own rules because Zanetor was not eligible to contest the election at the time she did per the party’s constitution. We are not saying she can’t go to Parliament. The law grinds slowly but it will surely get to its destination. The case is not over yet, we’ll still continue at the High court.”

Defeated incumbent MP for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashietey resorted to court to challenge the eligibility of Dr. Zanetor because she was not a registered voter when she was elected as a nominee.

Nii Armah Ashietey prayed the court to declare her election null and void.

Dr. Zenator on the other hand registered with the Electoral Commission during the Limited registration exercise which was held in April 2016.
