Rawlings could hurt daughter’s chances – Ephson

Pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson has indicated that Dr. Ezenator Rawlings is likely to “suffer reactions from her father’s past” should she involve him in her campaign.

Dr Ezenator, daughter of former President, Jerry John Rawlings has declared her intentions to contest in the November 7 primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey constituency.

Mr. Ephson, admitting that Dr Ezenator has good chances of winning, opines that the involvement of her father could be detrimental to her chances of winning as some people still hold on to past experiences they have suffered in the hands of the former president.

“She has a good chance of winning the seat if she wins the primaries. But she must not involve her father too much; for the simple reason that there are certain NDC members whose families suffered under the June 4 and 31st December issues… On her own, she can campaign and win. If she involves her father, she is likely to suffer reactions from her father’s past,” Mr. Ephson said on Starr FM’s on Thursday.

Dr Ezenator Rawlings will have incumbent Member of Parliament, Nii Armah Ashietey to beat in order to contest for the Korle Klottey seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.

In an interview on GTV yesterday, Dr Ezenator said she chose to vie for the NDC ticket because she believed there was still a chance to help improve the situation of the party.

Ahead of her declaration, she had been carrying out community service in the area.

Asked why she chose the NDC over her mother Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ National Democratic Party (NDP), she stated that her parents brought them up in a way that allowed anyone in the family to have different political affiliation, “and the purpose for which one embarks on a path with one group or another could simply be because one has noticed that there is a problem and would want to help fix it.”
