A former Minister of Power Dr Kwabena Donkor has on behalf of the NDC  apologised to their supporters for the defeat they suffered in the 2016 December elections.

He said they will work hard as a party and return to power in the near future.

“We thought we had done enough in terms of infrastructure, but there were other things the electorate expected from us that we probably missed.”

“We apologise to them. We promise to work hard, go back and, reorganise and listen to them more. Hopefully, the Ghanaian electorate will give us another opportunity to serve them," he added

The Member of Parliament for the Pru East Constituency, also said the Minority in parliament will serve as a check on the majority in the house. In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, he also assured that they will serve the interest of the citizenry.

The Nana Addo- led government will be sworn in on January 7, 2017, after he won the 2016 December polls.

“We will be a loyal opposition and defend the interest of the State and support the government of the day where the government and that of the electorate align.”

He encouraged supporters and sympathisers of the NDC to be steadfast and continue supporting the party even as they work to return to power.

“They should stand firm and be steadfast. We are down today… out of every misfortune, there is an opportunity. It provides us with another opportunity to take a second look at how we organise the party; there were issues with our primaries and gives us another opportunity. It should strengthen us and this is the time to be resilient and be focused. The elders have taken the first right start with the Prof. Botchwey committee.”

The Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has formed a 13 member committee to investigate the cause of the party’s defeat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the election.

The committee has also being charged to recommend the way forward for the party.

The committee is chaired by former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor Kwesi Botchway.
