“Mr Chairman let me use this opportunity to render unqualified apology to His Excellency President Jerry John Rawlings,” Amewu said.

The former President demanded an apology from New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s Volta Regional Chairman for claiming Rawlings helped the NPP win the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This was after Amewu praised the former President for helping the party emerge victorious in the December 7 polls especially in the Volta Region.

But Rawlings described Amewu’s claims as false and malicious claims.

In a statement, Rawlings said, "to make such untruthful and absurd claims of a follow up telephone call which can easily be verified is foolhardy, imprudent, unbecoming of a political actor who is supposed to lead with integrity and absolutely disrespectful."
