The police in Asawase has banned all activities at the Asawase Community Centre until further notice following the stampede that killed nine people during a Salah party Thursday dawn.

The stampede occurred after a sudden power cut to the center as the party went on.

Meanwhile the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asokore-Mampong, Nurudeen Hamidan says identification process has begun for the public or families of the deceased to find their loved ones who died in a stampede during an Eid ul-Fitr jams on Wednesday evening.
“The identification processes are ongoing, three have been identified so far and we have called the leadership of the organisers, they are coming to help us get the families,” he said.
Hamidan was speaking to the media after visiting the scene of the incident Thursday. He expressed his condolence to the family of the deceased and also indicated that the appropriate security agencies have started investigations into the matter.

“Let me express our deepest condolence to the family of the dead and those who are injured as well. Investigations are ongoing and we will make sure that we get to the bottom of the matter and we will deal with it as expected.”
The MCE mentioned that even though there are different narrations as to what happened at the scene of the stampede he had conveyed a municipal security meeting which will take place this afternoon.
“We will make sure that we get to the bottom of the matter and we will deal with it as expected. I have convened a municipal security meeting at 2pm today and we will look at the issues. We will make whatever decisions that come up will be relayed to the general public. If it is caused by an act of negligence or we find out anybody is culpable in this issue the person will be dealt with according to the laws of this country.”
