Konadu denies forming NDP

Nana Konadu said she only heard of the formation of the party while outside the country and decided to join because she believed in their ideals.

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has disclosed that she is not the founder of the National Democratic Party.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy FM Tuesday, she said she only heard of the formation of the party while outside the country and decided to join because she believed in their ideals.

The NDP broke from the ruling NDC because they (NDP) believed the NDC was corrupt and therefore could not abide by its ideals.

She stated that she is not the founder of the NDP as has been speculated over the years.

“I did not found it (NDP)...I had traveled so upon my return I heard of a new party and they gave the reasons for its formation so I decided to be part of it. It sounded good because they were going to do things differently on how Ghana should go. The party had better objectives to lift Ghana from poverty to a real middle income status not by words but by deeds and I wanted to be part of it”.

Nana Konadu who was the flagbearer of the NDP was disqualified by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan in the lead up to the 2012 elections adding that the party was unfairly treated.

“The way he treated us was unprofessional and unethical. He shouldn’t have done that. Even the way he flipped our documents on TV was unacceptable and that is why the court looked at the matter and said it was wrong and that we should have gone through,” she added.
