Four NPP chairmen suspended over Afoko

The four were suspended for organizing some members of the party to protest against the suspension of suspended National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended four constituency chairmen in the Ashanti Region indefinitely.

They are the Fomena Constituency chairman, Akwasi Nti Asamoah, Ejisu Constituency chairman, Okai Kwanim, the Asawaase Constituency chairman, Isaac Brenya, and Ahafo Ano South East constituency chairman, Joseph Dapaah.

The Ashanti Regional secretary of the party, Sam Pyne explained the decision saying, “The issue was that they flouted Article 3(b)(iv) of the party’s constitution, where they did not uphold the decision of NEC that Afoko has been suspended, and that they organized to go on a demonstration against the decision of the party.”

Last week, some NPP members numbering about 200 stormed the party headquarters to protest the decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to suspend Mr. Afoko.

The group declared their support for the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong asking that he be allowed to discharge his duties without interference.

Meanwhile, the Fomena Constituency chairman, Akwasi Nti Asamoah has denied taking part in the protest.

In a letter written to accept his suspension, the Fomena Constituency Chairman explained that he did not play any role in the picketing at the party’s headquarters.
