I don’t regret reporting crime in NPP to police - Baah Achamfour

Informant in the alleged ‘NPP-Ecobank secret account’ saga, Baah Achamfour, has stated that he has not regretted reporting the issue to the police.

Mr Achamfour speaking on Radio Gold on Tuesday morning said critics should not resort to calling him names; rather, they should look at the substance of the issue.

He stated that he had reported the matter to the police before they formed a committee to investigate the issue.

“The matter was reported to the police before they formed that committee, so I don’t think I’ve gone contrary. If the committee was to be in existence and maybe I by-passed them and reported the matter to the police that’s where someone might have accused me, but I reported the matter to the police before the committee was formed. So that issue does not come in at all, not at all,” he said.

He argued that he reported the matter to the police because he expected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be corruption-free. He however denied being urged on by any party executive or member.

“It’s my moral right, it’s for those who want corruption and the misappropriation of our party funds to get out of the party because they’ve always been attacking the National Democratic Congress of misappropriation and we’ve always been attacking them of corruption. Our flag-bearer has indicated categorically that he is incorruptible, we have to prove to Ghanaians that the flag-bearer means his words and whatever he says the supporters of the party also abide (by) and that anyone that we find to do contrary to what the flag-bearer has said, we are not going to allow him to go scot free. We will make sure he faces the law to set as an example to Ghanaians that yes, leadership under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo, such things will not be tolerated,” he said.

Baah Achamfour, made a complaint to the Bureau of National Investigations for checks into allegations that the vice chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, had opened a private account in the name of the NPP in which he was planning to divert party funds.

Meanwhile, Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Kwaku Baako has cast doubts on the informant in the NPP Ecobank secret account saga.

According to him, Baah Achamfour, who was also an informant in a similar secret account saga involving the Prudential Bank a couple of years ago has a fishy credibility and a history of making financial accusation without substance.
