Ghana is demanding change – Kufuor

He indicated that Ghana at the moment is “demanding change” because the nation has “come to a very critical stage and fearful crossroads.”

Ex-President John Kufuor has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the only party that can give the change Ghanaians are yearning for.

Addressing party delegates’ at the 15th national delegates’ conference in Sunyani on Saturday; the former President explained that Ghana is seeking change “because of the affliction of bad governance, poor economy, lack of direction that we suffer in the country.”

He remarked that the youth of the country are unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel “and so the people are saying, we want change.”

“As things stand, the change can happen only through one party and that party is your party the NPP,” he said.

Be on guard

Ex-President Kufuor challenged the rank and file of the NPP not to take anything for granted in the lead up to the elections because it is the party’s destiny to win the 2016 general elections.

He pointed out that the NPP is the biggest party in Ghana and every citizen crying for change is aware that their votes must be cast for the NPP.

Unity

According to him, in order to achieve the win the 2016 elections, everybody must feel included.

The responsibility, he said now lies on the party to close its ranks by sharing their vision with citizens which is “rallying the nation to give our flagbearer the over 50 percent.”

“I’m sure if we put ourselves together the way I am appealing to you, we will get far beyond the 50 percent; our candidate will win 54, 55 percent but first, we must go together and win people who are struggling to decide.”

He said the NPP must take steps to assure the country that they are ready to give the nation the change they desperately need.

Preach solutions

He appealed to the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and the rank and file of the party that “all that what should be the center of the campaign should be solutions.”

“We must tell people how we are going to solve the problems of Ghana for them. That is what the people want to hear. We must tell them we can do it.”

Ex-President Kufuor was certain that the 10 months remaining until the elections, the NDC government “cannot say anything from what they have been saying all along. Promise and fail over the past six year; that is all it’s been and the people has seen through them. Let the people believe that when the NPP comes, we will solve all their problems and they will see positive change so that is my appeal.”
