Outspoken former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Professor Stephen Adei, has lashed out President John Mahama for using a "bunch of incompetent young people" to govern the country.

“Honestly I believe that President Mahama has not been very good to us in the sense that even within the NDC, he has not used the capable people… He has used basically incompetent people, young people whose only turf is just insulting," he told Accra-based Class FM

He added: "I say that 50 per cent of Ghanaians are NDC and, therefore, there are capable people in NDC. He should not rule with this bunch of incompetent young people… And to me it pains me and I hold [President] Mahama responsible because he has all these people who are competent and he has not used them."

Speaking at the "Pearson Olae lectures" organised by old boys of Prempeh College in August, he said the president's appointment style is unacceptable and did not unify the country.

“One of the things going on which is totally unacceptable is about why one out of every four public sector appointment comes from the President’s area of origin.”

Prof Adei told the gathering in Accra: “That is totally unacceptable because we are a unified country, we are a country whereby if you take any major group, whether Gas, Ashantis or Ewes you can form a cabinet from it.”
