President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to stamp out corruption in his administration by ensuring value for money and restoring integrity in public life.

Speaking to a sea of cheering people numbering over 10,000 packed at the Square, Mr Akufo-Addo, dressed in a colourful Kente, said he will protect the state coffers, cautioning incoming ministers and appointees with intentions to loot to stay away from his administration.

"We must restore integrity in public life," he said. "State coffers are not spoils for the party that wins an election, but resources for the country’s social and economic development."

He added: "I shall protect the public purse by insisting on value-for-money in all public transactions. Public service is just that – service and not an avenue for making money.  Money is to be made in the private sector, not the public. Measures will be put in place to ensure this.
