Judgment debt Commission criticised for failing to propose sanction against Nana Addo

The office of the Attorney-General when Nana Addo was AG did not exhibit candour and good faith in seeking the order of certiorari at the Supreme Court.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Government has chastised the judgment debt commission for failing to make recommendations to sanction the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party for causing financial loss to the state to the tune of $4.9 million dollar judgment debt in 2002.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo authorized the payment to Delta Foods when he was Attorney General, over delays in paying for maize bought by the Ministry of Foods and Agriculture.

Government on Wednesday November 18, 2015 issued a White Paper on the Judgment Debt Commission’s report in which it accuses the opposition flagbearer of causing financial loss to the state for issuing payment.

According to the Judgement Debt Commission’s report, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s failure to pay US firm Delta Foods for imported maize in 1997 resulted in a 2 million judgment debt.

ii. The US$4.9 million payment authorized by Hon. Nana Akufo Addo and paid to the solicitor for Delta Foods Ltd., Hon. Peter Ala Adjetey, constituted a huge financial loss to the State.

iii. The office of the Attorney-General did not exhibit candour and good faith in seeking the order of certiorari at the Supreme Court.
