OPINION: You might agree with me that the most powerful man in Ghana should have a keen eye on how he appears in public.
After all, the president of Ghana, or whether president-elect is the head figure of the country and would certainly appear on television screens not only in Ghana but the rest of the world.
Thus, many would have thought that dressing in a professional manner should be the new president-elect’s main focus every time he wakes up in the morning.

In spite of this wide belief, many would agree with me that our incoming president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has since Friday, committed some fashion faux-pas.
Maybe due to the emotional stress and tension he had to grapple with on Friday, December 9, 2016, we might have to pardon his fashion style during his victory speech.
But we can’t do same for Sunday when he appeared during the inauguration of the Joint Transition Committee at the Conference Centre.
I was then watching the event with my mum on television, and the first issue my mother raised was: “His clothes do not fit him. Where is his wife? She must check this if those supposed to manage his outlook are not available.”
Then I knew that the issue about his appearance was a big deal. His casual look on Sunday did not blend well with me, with the shoulders of his jackets appearing too wide. I can’t fathom why he decided to wear a jacket without a tie, with inches of the jacket being too long and billow.
One would have thought that being a man not gifted with height, he should be opting for nicely-sewn African prints and not the suits and jackets.

During his tenure as president, John Agyekum Kufuor was usually in political suits and that fitted him so well, perhaps due to his height.
For Jerry Rawlings, he was mostly seen in his military regalia during his early days as a military leader all the way to his time as a civilian leader.
Well, we usually spotted him with jumpers underneath his kente cloth as well. That was fine.
But Nana Addo’s current outlook is not okay for me. You might ask that should what he wear matter as far as he is able to deliver on his promises? Yes, because the reality is that many politicians now rely on both substance and image, especially in the age of social media, where news is often an image-led medium.
That is why those managing Nana Addo’s outlook should rise to the occasion, and present him in a way that would leave a lasting impression on everyone.
