President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a five member Presidential Committee to determine the salaries of Article 71 office holders.

Mahama to review salaries of MPS, appointees
The new committee which was inaugurated by the President will be chaired by Professor Dora Francisca Edu- Buandoh.

The 1992 Constitution says the determination of the salaries and allowances of the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary must be determined by the President, on the recommendations of a committee appointed by him and acting upon the advice of the Council of State.
The committee will determine the salaries of the President’s Ministers and political appointees, Parliamentarians among others, as well as the members of the Council of State.
Over the years there has been heated debate over the salaries and emoluments for these groups of persons, while others have called for it to be totally scrapped.

Other members of the committee are Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, Dr. William Baah Boateng, Mrs. Norkor Duah and Mrs. Lydia Bawa.
Speaking on behalf of the committee said they “are humbled by this opportunity and the privilege to serve our nation in this way.”
“We have taken our oath of office and oath of secrecy and we promise that we will do due diligence to our terms of reference and we hope that by the time we bring our report, it will be good for the good of this nation, for the collective good of the people of Ghana and we hope that it will serve the purpose for which we have been put together,” she added.
The Committee, which was inaugurated by the President on Tuesday, will be assisted by Trade Unionist, Napoleon Kpoh as Consultant and Rudolf Kuuzegh as Secretary.
