According to Casely-Hayford, the electoral fraud dates back at least two decades to the times of former President Jerry John Rawlings, who founded of the party in 1990s as Ghana transitioned from a military dictatorship (led by Rawlings) to a democratic society.
âMy theory is that, over the years, the NDC had started, even as far back as Jerry Rawlingâs time, manipulating the votersâ register...Extra numbers that were on the votersâ register and that have been on the votersâ register for decades, were all padded numbers.

He went further to criticise the former administration for his governance record.
âI think that the NDC after so many decades of running this country has started believing their own lies. Casely-Hayford together with Occupy Ghana have been seen by many outsiders as sympathetic to the New Patriotic Party, although they described themselves as non-partisan. Some of its leading members have taken up positions within the new NPP government.
