The wife of the running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, made the comments at a party event in Agbozume in the Ketu South municipality of the Volta Region on Wednesday.

“Politics is not about who is tall or short, but the one who can bring proper development to the people,” she said.

At a recent campaign launch in Cape Coast, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio insinuated that Akufo-Addo's height does not qualify him to be president.

"Being a president is not about height, or how short you are. It is not about the eyeglasses you were. Being a president is about the love you have for the people and realising what they need. It is about deciding to sacrifice yourself to make life better for all,” he said.

Mrs Bawumia also attacked the economic records of the Mahama-led administration, in a typical fashion of her husband, saying the administration has little to show for the excessive money it has borrowed over the past four years.

"The interest alone we [Ghanaians] are paying on debts is more than the allocation they give to six ministries including education and health. There is still nothing for the NDC to show for the excessive borrowing except for unnecessary expenditure,” she said.
