Political parties have these interesting interpretations to their positions on the ballot paper

Most political parties have started reading meanings into the positions they picked on the presidential ballot.

Most political parties and their supporters have already read meanings and couched campaign messages around the positions they picked.

The Convention People’s Party picked the first position. In most traditions, the number 1 is synonymous with being the best. The number also means confidence and leadership. For the presidential candidate of the CPP, he is pleased they picked number 1.

However, for the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, she believes two is the winning number.

Remember good things they say come in pairs. The number two also signifies partnership. The ‘Two Sure, Two Direct’ mantra is making waves in their camp.

Number 3 stands for good fortune, in many religions three is divine. Before the NDC picked the third position it had composed a song titled ‘John 3;16’. The party believes all these happenings are divine and a way of showing they will win the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, the Progressive People’s Party is being marketed as the centre of the 2016 elections because he picked the fourth position. Kofi Asamoah Siaw interpreted the number to mean Dr Nduom was the obvious choice in this year’s elections.

NPP picked the fifth position on the ballot paper. This is the same as they picked for the parliamentary ballot sheet.

The People’s National Congress (PNC) is yet to decide on what campaign message to use their number six for. However, the surname of their flagbearer is Mahama, a six-letter word. They also argue that since Ghana attained independence of March 6, the number is of great significance and will propel them to victory.

For the independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah “this is the seventh election in the fourth republic. The number seven also stands for perfection and JOY the only independent candidate is number 7. So Joy stands for perfection. Everything is about Joy.” He believes this interpretation will make him win.

Obviously, the interpretations and campaign messages using the positions on the ballot box will not end anytime soon. But will the interpretation of numbers help any party win the election? We will get an answer after December 7, 2016.
