The 2016 presidential candidate for the Peoples National Convention (PNC) Presidential Candidate Dr Edward Mahama has said that his party will address all youth unemployment issues in the first two years of their four year term.
He was responding to questions at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA)'s Town Hall Presidential Debate.
Dr Mahama explained that a PNC government will prioritise agriculture since it can employ up to 50 percent of the unemployed youth in the country.

He cited examples of youth farmers and also used himself as an example. Narrating how he was a farmer as a 27-year old and the opportunities he got because of the path he chose.
He said that the agric sector could create indirect jobs for the unemployed.
“If we are growing rice, it will help the farmers as well others who would be polishing and bagging the rice. These value-added jobs will get people employed.”
He also added that his administration would help maize farmers in the Afram Plains in the Eastern Region where the land is fertile for maize farming.
He also mentioned other agric sectors including poultry. He said his govenrmnet would put in place enough measures to ensure the poultry industry grows as expected.
He said the poultry industry would do so well that it would fit into the PNC's 'A drumstick for every school child at lunch' programme.
