The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has deceived and neglected us for too long. This is the reason given by over 800 NDC members who defected to the opposition NPP in the Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region.

A spokesperson for the defectors Mahama Seidu told Accra-based Citi FM that they defected because they have not seen any improvement in their lives even though they have been voting for the NDC since 1992.

“We have been voting for the NDC since 1992 in these three communities with more than 600 households and we have been knocking the doors of the NDC party to meet our demands and no response.”

The opposition NPP in the region organised a rally to welcome the defectors and encouraged them to win more people for the NPP so they can win the polls on December 7.

The Kumbungu parliamentary election will be contested by the NDC’s Ras Mubarak, the NPP’s Iddrisu Muqtar Dems and the incumbent MP from the CPP Moses Amadu Yahaya.
