The Progressive People’s Party has alleged that its nomination forms submitted to the Electoral Commission had been tampered with.

The EC Chair, addressing a press conference on Monday, October 10, said the Commission is unable to accept Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s nomination because the number of subscribers to his forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.

She said one subscriber Richard Aseda (‘Asida’ on the Voters’ Register), with Voter ID no 7812003957) endorsed the forms in two different districts (pages 21 and 39).

The forms, therefore, the EC said, did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.

But the party in a Facebook post argued that a closer look at the forms shows that "the name [Richard Aseda] has been tipped or tampered," adding, “Could it be that this act of forgery was perpetrated against the PPP by an unknown source? And can it be a justification for disqualifying Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom from this crucial general election? AWAKE GHANA!!!@

Meanwhile, the party has urged its supporters to remain calm as the leadership of the party works assiduously to solicit answers from the Electoral Commission on reasons for disqualifying the party.

Brew Allotey Hammond, the party’s National Chairman said there is still hope for the party in the December polls.

He said following receipt of the news from the media, the national committee from the previously arranged meeting sent national executives to the EC to find out the facts of the matter. However, the EC’s offices were closed by the time the officers got there at 4pm.

“As soon as the details are made available to the national committee, the party’s official position will be stated,” he said.

He argued that the party will continue to campaign as the current move by the EC does not affect the parliamentary aspirants of the party.

“The alleged inability of the EC to accept our presidential forms does not affect our parliamentary candidates,” the PPP National Chairman added.

Pulse Ghana is seeking comment from the EC on these allegations.
